You should also consider your size and body frame when buying the best neck pillow for yourself. If you are smaller or taller than average a standard neck pillow may not be right for you. The reason is that your neck may not fit the pillow adequately causing you to either not get the best support or even forcing your neck into incorrect posture. If you are too small for a standard size pillow or have a very short neck the cervical roll may push your head forward. This simply causes head flexion and may straighten your curvature when sleeping on your back versus putting the smooth curvature into the neck.

A cotton center pillow is another option you might also consider, this kind of pillow tends to be flatter than the other kind of pillows they also don't maintain their shape and therefore don't mold around your head and neck like some of the other types. Although many people really like their cotton pillows because they feel that they let the body rest as it naturally wants to and they will not trade their cotton pillow for anything and also use them faithfully without suffering any neck pain.

Choosing the right pillow is very important in achieving restful sleep. A good pillow will support the head and neck without applying excessive pressure, as it conforms to the exact shape of the bed, thus spreading the weight evenly and uniformly along the vertebrae.

A pillow with a cotton filling is another kind. Such pillows are usually flatter than the other pillows, but they don't hold their shape and take the form of your head. Nowadays, cotton pillows are a choice of many people, as they confess their body rests better in its natural position with their help. If you prefer to sleep on this type of pillows it's better to change it instead of washing it. Cotton pillows become too flat with the weight of the body after some time. As a result, a pillow becomes water soaked when washed that makes a breeding ground for mold.

Using a pillow while sleeping on the back. When lying on his back, a pillow should support the natural curvature of the cervical spine, with adequate support in the head, neck and shoulders. While sleeping in the back, the height of the pillow should be lower than in the sideways position. Place a pillow or two beneath the knees further alleviates any back pain, and is softer position on the back.

They may often have different designs too. Maybe a wave-like design, or it can have a pocket where your head sits. Material is also another variable. I've seen, experimented with, and have reviewed pillows of all different materials. Fiber filled pillows, water based pillows, foam pillows, buckwheat pillows, etc... I tend to like fiber filled pillows that are standard firmness, not too hard and not too soft. This allows for good support and a comfortable night's sleep. Also, synthetic fibers are often hypoallergenic and don't hold dust mites like a feather pillow may. I tend to find memory foam to be slightly too hard for many, and I don't want to play around and have to adjust my pillow like you sometimes have to with a water based pillow. But again, you may need to try some different options to see what you like best.
